Day 88, Post-Op Pre-Packing Blues: Wednesday, December 14th!

Style is time's fool. Form is time's student. -Stewart Brand, writer and editor (b. 14 Dec 1938)

Hi Patrick, I didn't catch it exactly, you guys are leaving for the rest of the year?
In this case all the best, happy celebration and most successes (including aggressively bidden games) in new year and afterwards. Regards, Mike

Hi Michaelo! Sorry you cannot join us this evening but thanks for the Christmas and New Year's wishes. We are off tomorrow morning, driving to Portland for the first night, then Williams, then Berkeley, for two nights, then Tinsel Town. Plan to be back by January 2nd, at the latest, so hope we can raise a table for January 4th! Happy Christmas to you and Mariolla and family and a Healthy New Year to one and all! Fondestos from Lady Dar. Stay well. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi George and Jane, First all the best for the holidays. You must be so excited about your upcoming adventures. We have started to plan our time in Europe. We will fly into Paris around the 7th of March and I will stay until around 24 of April and Patrick to mid-June. Most of the time will be in Spain and Portugal. It doesn't sound like I will see you two. Keep us up to date as you travel. Are you going to do a travel blog? We leave tomorrow for drive to LA. Looking forward to seeing the boys and Ayn and Chloe is flying down for 5 days. Take Care and Happy Travels, Hug, Corinne

Hi Calamity and Whirlygiggenheimer! Missed you both at the Open House! Just wanted to echo Lady Dar's wishes and thoughts. Will certainly be in touch as soon as I finalize my actual travel dates and we'll see what we might see!  Happy Christmas to you both, (and Morita, from Etta and Duke), and family and a Healthy New Year to one and all! Fondestos from Lady Dar. Stay well. Must away as the fire needs another log! Cheers, Il Conduttore, Tummler, Patrizzio!

Tummler, nice to hear from you. We were just grousing about you this morning. Thanks for the New Year invite to Sarge and Flamin's. We will be in Victoria on route to deliver Morita to her dog sitting family in Courtenay. Please give them both my best. Please keep us posted on your travel plans across the pond. We will do the same.

Malt fees: the cheque is in the mail as they say. Have you ever received funds by email? I paid many of the trades people here that way. I could transfer it that way if you can receive it? You tell me how you want to get it. I should do it before I leave the country - 5 January.

We are applying for a house sit in Tala, Cypress and want to be able to say we have a good friend who spent a good part of his youth in ' ', Cypress. Where were you? When? Have a great trip to LA. Give my regards to those I know along the way: Mike et al. Season's Greetings to you and yours, not the least of - Etta and Duke from el Morita. Fond regards and safe travels, W&C

Thank you so much Patrizzio and Corine! I'll be at your place +- 6:15 for my final bridge this year and that will make it 10 for me. Yeh! As I'm leaving for Edmonton early Tuesday morning here's wishing everyone the very best for a great Christmas and a Happy New Year. I'll catch up with everyone when I get back in mid January since I don't think I'll be able to make it on Thursday.

Tummler, we are actually trying to house sit in Cypress Hills, Manitoba. What can you tell us? Listen you pedantic old Cypriot - Cyp or us it is. Thanks for educating us on the Island mythology, geology and spelling. We will find out if we can bring a guide. I will leave the cheque with Carlos. He may want a cut. You can go and crash his New Years party. W&C

Hello Grouse Island People! I wondered why my ears were burning earlier! Sorry we won't be tippling Prosecco on New Year's Eve! Nevertheless, we'll raise a glass to you! With respect to malt payment, I think it would be easiest if you send, or leave a cheque, (made out to me, not Imelda!), in Vancouver, with Sarge or Ragin' or even Carlos the Jackal!

With respect to Cyprus, (not "Cypress", you dunderhead!), I used to live just outside the village of "Lefka (Greek: Λεύκα; Turkish: Lefke), overlooking Morphou Bay. De facto, it is under the control of Northern Cyprus. Lefka is known for its citrus fruits and the copper mine" where my Dad worked. You obviously know that Tala "is a large suburban village 6 km north of Paphos. Many non-Cypriots (mostly British) have moved here permanently or have a summer home in Tala. Ayios Neofytos Monastery is 1 km north. Tala is the ancestral village of the singer Cat Stevens. His father, Stavros Georgiou, was born here in 1900." Our close friend, Penny, from London, has a good friend with a house there and she often spends some holiday time there.

We were last in Cyprus in 2007 and took a number of trips to Pahos which is close to Tala.  Again, if you tire of singing Tea for the Tillerman, a visit to "Palaepaphos, (Old Paphos), at the seaside of Petra tou Romiou" is well worth a visit as it "is the modern mythical birthplace of Aphrodite. Since this myth is interwoven with the goddess at every level, Old Paphos became the most famous and important place for worshipping Aphrodite in the ancient world. In Greco-Roman times, Paphos was the island's capital, and it is well known for the remains of the Roman governor's palace, where extensive, fine mosaics are a major tourist attraction. Paul the Apostle visited the town during the first century AD. The town of Paphos is included in the official UNESCO list of cultural and natural treasures of the world's heritage."

If time allows, visit the Troodos Mountains as well as the Turkish controlled, northern part of the island, Kyrenia, (Setting for much of Othello is in castle in harbour. Furthermore, "
Lawrence Durrell lived in Bellapais from 1953–56, detailing his experience in Bitter Lemons. To find his home, walk up from the abbey square along Aci Limon." It is open to the public, or at least was when we were there.), and Saint Hilarion Castle, in particular. It is worth a visit for the view alone. Buy me a ticket and I'll be your guide! Must away as Red Cross just phoned and I needs must return raised toilette seat! Cheers, Patrizzio!

Corinne, nice to hear from you. We are indeed quite excited to hit the road in January although the planning and prep are shadowing that excitement at the moment. We regret we will not see you across the pond. Bad timing - we don not land in Europe until the 19 of April. Hopefully we can connect to Pat while we are in Europe. We have not set up anything like a blog as yet but that is the plan. Safe travels to LA. Sounds like a great way to spend the holiday season. All the best of the season to you and yours and hope we can cross paths sooner than next August when we plan to be back on terra firma. Fond regards to all,
George and Jane

Hi Ten-Out-Of-Ten Woman! Sorry you could not join us for the Open House but glad we'll see you here tonight for bridge. For our part, we are off tomorrow morning, driving to Portland for the first night, then Williams, then Berkeley, for two nights, then Tinsel Town. Plan to be back by January 2nd, at the latest, so hope we can raise a table for January 4th, even if you will still be making perogies in Edmonton! Fondestos from Lady Dar. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Thank you so much Patrizzio and Corine! I'll be at your place +- 6:15 for my final bridge this year and that will make it 10 for me. Yeh! Hi Kali and Glasgow! Missed you both at the Open House! Thanks so much for the delightful card and newsy letter. I must say, Kali, that you are far more loquacious than your "mean bastard of an owner"! Sounds like you will be busy over hols. Friends, Josinta and Aarturo just returned from Patagonia, hiking, etc. What are your dates? Pleased to hear you caught up with Santiago and Ellen, Ricardo and Sir Andrew. Happy Christmas to you and Catherine, Sascha and Alexa, (and you, Kali, from Etta and Duke), and a Healthy New Year to one and all! Stay well, Matthew. Cheers, Il Conduttore/Patrizzio!

Now they say we'll have snow this afternoon. Ice will stay south of Portland. You should be fine tomorrow. Marilyn
